Itel P55 5G Specs: The Cheapest 5G Smartphone?

If you follow the trend of smartphones/tablets, you would observe that new technologies, hit the flagship device first, before they finally trickle down to the mid-range and then low-end devices. However, Itel has made the move to speeding things up, by offering 5G in the lower mid-range category.

Amongst the smartphone brands under Transsion, Itel is known for the most low-end/affordable provisions. So naturally you wouldn’t look in Itel’s direction for this kind of early provision, however, It is what it is, Itel has left us astonished.

Itel has shown with its P55, that it is now possible for enthusiasts to have a smartphone with 5G internet without having to spend a ton. How well did Itel pull this off? and what are the trade-offs, this and much more, will be covered in this article on the Itel P55 5G Specs

Design:

Itel’s design scheme didn’t change on the P55. If you are conversant with its design scheme, then you should already know what to expect. The Itel P55 5G bears one of the most basic designs you will find on an Android smartphone in 2024.

Taking a quick first glance at its chassis, I get reminded of the earlier released Tecno Spark 9 pro, this is because the Itel P55 shares the same notch, flat side, and similar camera bumps on the rear. Again this reminisce shouldn’t come as a surprise if you are conversant with the design scheme on Transssion devices, as reminisces like this are very common.

On the front of the P55 slab, there’s a 6.6-inch IPS display, with a resolution of 720 x 1612 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. Also on the front slab is home to a dew drop notch caving in the screen and also a bottom chin, which goes to say, there isn’t a near bezel-less experience here.

On the rear, there’s a fairly reflected surface, on which you will find two camera bumps, as well as some branding text.

Summing the design features on the chassis shows that the Itel P55 offers a very basic design, there isn’t really any innovation here, and there are also smartphones from the past that had similar designs.

How Powerful Is The Itel P55

The fact that the P55 bears 5G connectivity which is at this point common with higher mid-range flagship devices, doesn’t mean it is a flagship device. It sort of leans toward the low-end category.

On board, is a Mediatek Dimensity 6080 processor which supports 5G, a Mali-G57 MC2 GPU, a 5000mAh battery, and 18W fast charging. While for RAM and storage, the P55 comes in two variants. Enthusiasts can either get it with 4GB RAM / 64GB storage or pay higher to get the 6GB / 128GB storage.

How does the P55 measure up? by estimation, you will be able to get away with playing a lot of mobile gaming titles and a fair measure of multitasking. However, there isn’t any promise of not experiencing stutters, especially for enthusiasts who subscribe to getting the 4GB variant.

Any Hope For Mobile Photographers and Cinematographers? Can the Itel P55 take Good Looking Photos For My Social Media Page?

For starters / in conclusion, you shouldn’t really expect anything spectacular here. It packs a low-end camera system. This means you will have to do a lot to get decent photos. However, enthusiasts who aren’t really optimistic can achieve a lot.

The camera setup on the Itel P55 comprises a 50MP primary camera and a 0.08MP auxiliary lens on the rear, while on the selfie side, there is a single 8MP camera.

The Star (5G) 🌟

The main aim behind the release of new and higher network bands is basically to offer faster internet speeds, which in turn will help people surf the internet faster, download faster, stream, etc., and as described in the introductory paragraph, Itel’s perceived main aim with the P55 5G, is to make accessing 5G cheaper, bringing 5G phones to the pocket of a larger population.

However, we shouldn’t forget that having a smartphone with 5G support is one thing, and having 5G coverage in your area is another thing. At the time this article was written and published, 5G in Nigeria wasn’t really a thing, as 5G coverage is only available in a few parts of Nigeria, and not all networks have properly set up their systems to supply stable 5G networks. So purchasing the P55 5G because of its 5G support prowess, is more about future-proofing, as you may not have the privilege of utilizing the feature for a long time to come.

The Itel P55 5G May Just Be The Cheapest 5G Phone In Nigeria or Even The World

As of the time this article was written and published, the price for the Itel P55 5G was around ₦ 163,700. Which makes it one of the cheapest, if not the cheapest 5G phones you can get today.
